Waugh, Ralphbucks, and the Moral Jihad from Central Canada

Many have commented on Neil Waugh's Two Solitudes column in the Edmonton Sun. Speaking of the high price of oil, Waugh has the following mix of quote and comment:

"However, the positive benefits from higher energy prices will mostly accrue to the energy-rich provinces of the West," the TD analysis warned. The Ralphbucks prosperity bonus being the most in-your-face example of that.
"While export-orientated manufacturers located largely in central Canada will be left to endure the double whammy of high fuel costs and a stronger dollar," the report sighed.
Not to mention the dreaded curse of "fiscal imbalance." It talked about how this leaves eastern politicians (the report calls them "policy-makers") "with the dilemma of how to respond to such a diverging profile."
By correcting the fiscal balance, of course.

As this blog has contended(eg. here, here, and here), the inherent desire for the correction of this 'imbalance' is viewed in moral terms by Central Canada.

It is simply unjust for Alberta to keep the oil wealth, while the needs of Toronto/ Golden Horsehoe are neglected.

Already the Alberta infidels are coming under literary and optical attack from the moral jihad of righteous Central Canada.

Is this overstatement? Of course it is. But the inherently moral argumentation of the whole 'imbalance' question lends itself to such a parody.

Hell, I don't think it's overstated enough. I do like the Moral Jihad statement. It kind of best describes the mentality were fighting.

Yes. The Toronto MSM has always had an air of self-righteousness about it. And that attitude is entirely connected to their "Great Society" morality.

That's why they all loved Trudeau. He was their high priest!
